HISTORY MAKER AWARDS: HONORING PEOPLE IN MEDICINE

West Chester, PA – The Chester County History Center will host the second edition of the History Maker Awards fundraising dinner, this year honoring People In Medicine. The event will take place at the History Center on Thursday, April 25, 2024 at 6:00 PM.

Chester County holds a distinguished place in the medical history of the United States, contributing unique advances and pioneering figures in medicine and public health, who have impacted both local and national medical practices. The Chester County History Center is honored to recognize People in Medicine in Chester County by celebrating the life, accomplishments, service, and contributions of Dr. Ann Preston, Dr. Diana Kane, and Franny & Franny Abbott.

Dr. Ann Preston, a known historical figure in Chester County, was one of the first female graduates of the Female Medical College of Pennsylvania (later the Woman’s Medical College of Pennsylvania, now Drexel University College of Medicine). She became the first woman Dean of a Medical College in the United States. Dr. Diana Kane is a remarkable medical doctor who has led as an emergency room physician and chaired the Emergency Department of the Chester County Hospital for decades. Franny and Franny Abbott will be recognized for their tireless efforts and support benefitting our community and the institution of medicine in Chester County.

Conor Hepp, president of the Chester County History Center comments: "The History Maker Awards will recognize remarkable individuals whose contributions have had enduring impact in the life of many, in the history of our county, and in the history and advancement of the institution of medicine. We are honored to recognize Dr. Ann Preston, Dr. Diana Kane, and Franny and Franny Abbott. They remind us that each person has the power to shape history through our actions, no matter how big or small."

The event is open to the public and tickets are available through the History Center’s website.
