Laura Manion Moderates Childcare Panel
|
On Thursday morning, CCCBI President & CEO, Laura Manion, joined the Chester County Economic Development Council (CCEDC) at the Delaware County Community College Downingtown Campus for a panel discussion on the childcare crisis.
Manion moderated a panel of experts who shared their key experiences and insights for creating childcare solutions that would benefit both employers and employees.
"The lack of accessible and affordable childcare is having an impact on the workforce of Chester County, as well as the employer members of the Chester County Chamber," said Manion.
"We need to address the childcare crisis from every angle: recruitment and retention of staff, offsetting rising costs of operation and removing regulatory impediments for providers, and alleviating the overwhelming cost of care for parents. As a representative of CCCBI, I was honored to moderate today’s discussion. We look forward to continuing the conversation on childcare and the workforce, and taking next steps with our stakeholders.”

Reading to Philadelphia Rail Moving Forward with Federal Funding
|
The Schuylkill River Passenger Rail Authority has been accepted into a federal program that will provide a critical boost to the effort to restore train service between Reading and Philadelphia.
The project has been accepted into the Corridor Identification and Development Program. The line would include stops in Reading, Pottstown and Phoenixville, which could partially help address the workforce crisis within Chester County. CCCBI is working diligently to support projects such as this to ensure economic growth.
Authority members have said the federal funding is a once-in-a-generation opportunity that can help make the costly project financially feasible. Discussions about restoring service, which ended in 1983, have been going on for the past two decades.
With its acceptance into the program, the authority will receive $500,000 to develop the scope and costs of completing a service plan that will examine ridership and revenue forecasts, capital programming and an operational analysis. The selection also means the project will be eligible for more federal grants down the line.
