Shared Interest Groups

Restaurants & Hospitality

Wednesday  morning, the Chamber convened our Restaurant & Hospitality Shared Interest Group (SIG), bringing together restaurant and coffee company owners, bakers, corporate caterers, hoteliers, mobile beverage, and other industry leaders for a thoughtful discussion on the challenges and opportunities facing the hospitality sector.

"Wednesday’s meeting of the Chester County Chamber of Business & Industry Shared Interest Group for Hospitality was another outstanding success," said Tim Gemmell, The General Warren. "One of this group’s greatest strengths is the diversity of hospitality professionals who generously share their experiences, challenges, and insights. Their willingness to offer guidance, ideas, and support creates a collaborative environment where we learn from one another, strengthen our leadership, and continue to grow both individually and collectively."

Our conversation centered on the evolving landscape of consumer behavior and business operations. Members discussed the growing impact of GLP-1 medications on dining habits and food purchasing patterns, exploring how changing consumer preferences may influence menus, portion sizes, and overall demand in the years ahead.

We also examined the ongoing financial pressures businesses continue to navigate, including inflation, rising food costs, increasing insurance premiums, rent, and other operating expenses that are driving up the cost of providing food and beverage services. Workforce challenges remained a key topic as well, with members highlighting how housing affordability continues to affect employee recruitment and retention throughout the region.

Despite these headwinds, the discussion focused on innovation and adaptation. Members shared ideas on how restaurants, bakeries, hotels, and other hospitality businesses can respond to changing market conditions through menu innovation, operational efficiencies, customer experience enhancements, and strategic planning.

"It’s been such a pleasure getting together with other business owners in the area," said Sydney L. Grims , Fearless Restaurants. "It’s not only a great way for us to commiserate, but we can vocalize our issues and things that we are really dealing with on a day-to-day basis in the restaurant industry to the chamber, who can amplify our voices. This Chamber is a resource for us in the capital and speak to legislators on our behalf about key points that we are facing, such as inflation, employees, limited access to housing in our areas or even public transportation."

Construction & Engineering

Early this morning, CCCBI held another SIG for our construction and engineering industries.

This insightful conversation carried a heavy focus on Artificial Intelligence, as many of our representatives had both positive experiences as well as concerns and safeguards for utilizing Al tools.

In many ways, AI has the ability to improve efficiency, support better project outcomes, and enhance the work we do, particularly in the construction and engineering realms. For all of its uses, there are also valid concerns surrounding workforce impacts, accuracy, and how we prepare for the future with a tool that is rapidly growing while we are still trying to learn it.

The consensus wasn't that AI will replace people, but that it will become an increasingly valuable tool for those who know how to leverage it effectively.

We also had an important discussion about housing affordability in Chester County. With rising home prices, elevated mortgage rates, increasing rental costs, and the continued impact of inflation on everyday necessities, many hardworking individuals and families are finding it increasingly difficult to live in the communities where they work. This challenge affects not only employees, but also employers who are working to attract and retain talent in our region.

"As a current Board Member, I always appreciate the opportunity to collaborate with fellow professionals on the issues shaping our industry and our community and this took my engagement to the next level!" said Lindsay Miller, CTDI. "What I found most refreshing was realizing that many of us share the same concerns, questions, and optimism about the future. While there are certainly challenges ahead, there was also a genuine sense of excitement about the opportunities to innovate, collaborate, and thoughtfully navigate the changes happening around us. Thank you to the CCCBI Team for organizing such a meaningful discussion and for bringing together leaders who are committed to strengthening both our industry and our community. I look forward to continuing these conversations and helping turn ideas into action!"

These conversations are exactly why CCCBI’s Shared Interest Groups exist: to create a forum where members can exchange ideas, learn from one another, and work collectively to address the issues impacting their industries. Thank you to everyone who participated and contributed to another engaging and insightful discussion.

We have these roundtables for various industries and hope you’ll consider joining us for the next one!

Legislative Update

Coalition Letter in Support of the BUILD America 250 Act

What's happening: With the House down to just 5 remaining session weeks before the current law expires, every day counts. Submitting this letter as early as possible is critical to maximizing our chances of getting this passed before time runs out.

The BUILD America 250 Act includes $474.4 billion in guaranteed funding for the maintenance and construction of our nation’s roads, bridges, railroads, transit systems, and ports, which support safe and efficient trade, travel, and tourism in our communities. Further, the bill includes important reforms to the reviews and permitting of new transportation projects, which will help deliver critical infrastructure with fewer delays and at lower cost.

It also includes the first meaningful effort to provide new revenue sources for the Highway Trust Fund, essential to the long-term sustainability of federal infrastructure investments. Finally, this legislation provides valuable certainty to States, local governments, transit agencies, and private-sector partners in planning, financing, and delivering major surface transportation projects, which helps employ millions of Americans.

The bottom line: This is bipartisan, it's pro-business, and it directly impacts the communities your members operate in. Adding your chamber's name sends a clear signal to Congress that the business community is united behind smart infrastructure investment.

CCCBI has signed on to this letter of support.
