Last Business Before Business at Kennett Library
|
Yesterday, CCCBI held our last monthly networking event of 2025!
Our staff and nearly 30 Members travelled to Kennett Library for a morning of coffee, connection and education.
Attendees were able to tour Kennett Library's facility, newly renovated in the summer of 2023. Their wide variety of programming for the community is one of the most prestigious in the county. It was eye-opening to see the unexpected, yet fitting, range of events and resources. From networking to learning and development to entertainment, Kennett Library has it all.
We were also excited to welcome fellow Chamber member Karen Moffit, owner and founder of Little Miss Moffitt, who provided delicious cookies for our guests to sample and take home. At Little Miss Moffitt their goal is to create Hugs Disguised as Cookies, helping you spread caring and kindness through their commitment to excellence in delivering exceptional products and gifting experiences.
Thank you to all who joined us!

Our panelists shared their experiences in a variety of fields. Their insights resonated with their peers, no matter the stage of their career. Guests left uplifted, energized and inspired by the successes, challenges and growth that these women have navigated.

Pennsylvania State Budget Update
|
Pennsylvania lawmakers ended a 134-day budget impasse by approving a $50.1 billion spending plan, passing it in the House 156– 47 and in the Senate 40– 9, before Governor Josh Shapiro signed it.
The budget increases spending by approximately $2.5 billion (5%), with nearly all new funding directed to public schools, while relying on surplus dollars to maintain balance and leaving approximately $8 billion in reserves. It includes a new state earned income tax credit equal to 10% of a filer’s federal credit, saving qualifying families roughly $200 to $700, and delivers additional investments in social services and economic programs.
In negotiations, Democrats secured significant increases in education funding. At the same time, Republicans won a key concession: Democrats agreed not to move forward with efforts to make Pennsylvania the only major energy-producing state to require power plants to pay for carbon emissions.
The deal ends months of delayed funding for counties, schools, and nonprofits across Pennsylvania.
The Chester County Chamber of Business & Industry assisted in drafting a letter to Pennsylvania's legislators on behalf of our local nonprofit organizations. Many of these charitable organizations provide a variety of essential services for residents across the county, creating growth and stimulation for our economy.

Barclay Friends, A Kendal Affiliate, is a not-for-profit senior living community in West Chester that provides high-quality care in a welcoming and home-like environment for older adults. Founded in 1893 and rooted in the Quaker values of simplicity, peace, integrity, community, equality, and stewardship (known colloquially as the SPICES), Barclay Friends creates an environment where older adults are encouraged to grow, contribute, and engage meaningfully in life.
|
Earlier this year, Barclay Friends converted its short-term rehabilitation wing into a brand-new, 24-apartment memory care neighborhood to meet the growing need of older adults with dementia.
“I’m excited to position Barclay Friends as a leader in dementia care,” said Maria Santangelo, CEO of Barclay Friends. Recently, Barclay Friends became the first senior living community in the area to be recognized with the Memory Care Seal of Excellence from the National Council of Certified Dementia Practitioners (NCCDP), a distinction earned by educating at least 80% of staff about how to engage and care for older adults with memory impairment.
|
The campus includes inviting residential accommodations and a continuum of living options—Residential Living, Personal Care, Memory Care, and Skilled Nursing. A focus on wellness of mind, body, and spirit helps community members maintain independence while receiving the support they need in a warm, neighborly environment.
With deep roots in West Chester and a forward-looking vision for aging well, Barclay Friends continues to celebrate the individuality of each person who becomes part of the community.
