CCCBI Hosts Chester County Housing Panel
|
On June 20th, the Chester County Chamber of Business & Industry’s (CCCBI) Young Professionals Committee held a Housing Panel to discuss the state of housing across Chester County. The panel, comprised of Libby Horwitz of the Chester County Planning Commission, Steven Shields of Moody’s Analytics, and award-winning realtor Michelle Leonard, covered the current state of the housing market, what it means for potential buyers, sellers, and employers, and future outlooks.
The room was filled with community partners, such as representatives from the County of Chester, the Housing Partnership of Chester County, the Pennsylvania Restaurant and Lodging Association and various municipal employees. The audience Q&A was robust, focusing on the need to address housing, infrastructure and public transportation in our community. Manion finished the conversation by noting, “this is a topic employers should pay close attention to. Affordable and attainable housing is directly related to workforce.”
CCCBI will continue to advocate for housing solutions, some of which identified at this critical forum, with elected officials and other decision-makers.

CCCBI Foundation Holds Summer Solstice
|
Thank you from our staff!
Abby Wolfe, Marianne Martelli, Laura Manion, Julie Varga, and Laura Ellis
For the second year in a row, the Chester County Chamber of Business & Industry Foundation held their Summer Solstice! This year's celebration was held at the beautiful Wawa Blossom Hill Campus with food and beverages from John Serock Catering, Penns Woods Winery, and Locust Lane Craft Brewery.
This event would not have been possible without the generosity of our sponsors. All proceeds from the Summer Solstice support the Chamber's Foundation and the Youth Leadership program, which provides opportunities for high school juniors and seniors to network in professional settings with field experts to better understand that industry and explore potential career paths.

PA House Votes to Increase Minimum Wage
|
Yesterday, the Pennsylvania House of Representatives voted to increase the minimum wage. The legislation will increase the rate to $11.00 per hour effective January 1, 2024, $13.00 per by January 1, 2025 and $15.00 per hour effective January 1, 2026, but permanently index it to inflation thereafter. It also increases tipped wages to 60% of the minimum wage. After some heated debate, the bill was passed by only 103-100 and will likely be on the table for the state fiscal year budget negotiations.
CCCBI collected feedback from our Government Affairs Committee as well as Board of Directors and learned many of our employer members already pay well above the minimum wage due to current market conditions. We also have heard from some of our human services providers, namely those around the childcare industry, that an increase could have a negative impact on their workforce shortage. Thus, the Chamber will monitor the negotiations of any increase closely and welcomes further feedback from our members.

Big Boize BBQ Sauce is a small local business that is becoming a big national hit just in time for summer BBQ season!
After moving north and searching for a traditional southern BBQ sauce, Cass Rowland III decided to utilize his 25 years of barbecuing experience and curate his own unique flavor profile in a brand new sauce.
This local, black-owned business is sold in stores across Chester County like Giant, Walmart, Midway Grill Thorndale, Triple Fresh Market, and more! In honor of Juneteenth this past Monday, CCCBI featured Big Boize BBQ Sauce on our social media platforms, and we are excited to support Cass as he expands his brand beyond Chester County to online sales nationwide.
