Community Warehouse Project of Chester County collects gently used furniture and housewares donations and gives to families and veterans in need throughout Chester County.
They help families and individuals struggling with poverty and other severe life challenges. Often, every spare dollar earned or received goes to basic needs like food and health care. CWP believes providing free furniture is a great weapon against homelessness by providing hope and stability. A bed to sleep on, a kitchen table to eat dinner, do homework, and a sofa and coffee table for conversation. Adults and children are more likely to thrive in a furnished home. Furniture can have a psychological impact that, despite previous struggles, life can be normal again.
2024 is our 7th year of operations. Over 2,129 households have received furniture and housewares from CWP in the last 7 years. This means an average of 4,000 adults and children have been impacted by these donations, including hundreds of Veterans.
We are a staff of two and have many loyal volunteers to help us complete the work.
CWP takes furniture requests from over 100 Partner Agencies and non profits throughout Chester Co. – including schools, shelters, housing agencies, VA Hud Vash program, Home of the Sparrow, Friends Association, etc. The agencies identify the need and refer the clients to us for furniture and housewares donations. They then call the client, discuss their furniture needs and schedule delivery a.s.a.p. – usually within a couple of days, and use a small moving company and get funding from grants to pay this expense. CWP is pleased to assist many clients in need after being displaced due to a fire, hurricane, flood, etc.
Located in West Chester and Downingtown, their warehouses are donated by a generous business partnership. Gathering the donations needed to serve all of these folks requires a lot of time and management. While they do not have our own truck with paid employees to pick up donations, CWP asks donors to drop off their items whenever possible or ask our volunteers to help with pickups.
The West Chester Warehouse is open Monday to Friday from 9 am to 1 pm to receive donations. They are also open the third Saturday of each month from 9 to 1pm. They also welcome donations on the first Sunday of each month at our Downingtown Warehouse.
CWP invites you to join them, experience the buzz of the team work and excitement knowing you are making a difference in the lives of so many men, women and children in our community. Please follow Community Warehouse Project on Facebook and tell your friends and family about CWP as a place they can share their unwanted used furniture and housewares with our neighbors in the Chester County community.
