October Speaker Series on Cybersecurity
|
Today we hosted our October Speaker Series on Cybersecurity for Small & Medium Businesses with two excellent panelists!
The statistics about cyber attacks on small businesses were staggering, but essential for business owners to better understand how to prepare and how to respond to cyber threats.
|
Our key takeaways:
- It takes more than just technology for your email or system to be hacked...host regular training for your employees of all levels and create a set process to prevent and quickly address an attack
- Funds transfers are becoming more common through fraudulent emails. Always tell your clients and partners how you will approach them with changes to your system or new requests to help them identify a scam.
- Have a plan to respond to data breaches! Be prepared with adequate cyber insurance and legal representation to help you navigate a successful attack with your business AND your clients.
Most attacks aren't about your information...they're about the monetary value of your information. Prevent your business operations from coming to a halt and protect your business model by preparing for cyber threats.
Special thanks to Bernie Orglmeister of SkyViewTek and Alexandra Bretschneider of Johnson, Kendall & Johnson for sharing their expertise and having an open dialogue with today's attendees.

Special Ribbon Cutting Ceremony with BeBalanced
|
Last Thursday, CCCBI joined BeBalanced for their Grand Reopening in West Chester!
Laura Ellis, Director of Membership along with CCCBI Ambassadors Teresa Glass (Johnson Kendall & Johnson) and Jenn Christensen (Kamelot Productions) celebrated as owner, Chrisi Lockwood, shared her full circle story!
Chrisi was introduced to BeBalanced years ago and has had so much success with the program, that when the opportunity for her to own her own franchise arose, she jumped right on it! The program's success really lies with the personal interaction between the client, Chrisi and the advisors at BeBalanced.
Guests of the event had a special treat as Founder Dawn Cutillo shared in a personal setting how hormones impact our weight, mood, sleep, energy and more.
It was great to share in the excitement and support of a new locally owned and operated business. We wish Chrisi and the entire BeBalanced team success and look forward to seeing them at chamber events!

PA General Assembly Recesses Until After November Election
|
The PA General Assembly was in Session earlier this week to work on several pieces of legislation, several of which are now heading to the Governor’s desk. However, the much-anticipated end of Session significant legislative “trades” apparently fell through during negotiations between leaders of the Democrat controlled House and Republican controlled Senate. Both bodies are scheduled to return in mid-November - after the election - but it is unclear if they will take up any of the pending legislation. Bills stuck in limbo potentially include funding for mass transit, managing food processing waste, updating the Semiconductor Manufacturing Tax Credit Program, regulations for virtual currency, and protecting animals in domestic violence situations, to name a few.
In the meantime, half of the seats in the PA Senate and the full House of Representatives are up for election on November 5th. Each party is seemingly playing more defense to protect their incumbent members instead of offense to gain a great deal of more seats. Opinions vary on what district may flip, but indications are that at least the following campaigns are competitive:
However, with Pennsylvania as THE Battleground State for the Presidential campaign, there will likely be a few surprises for local legislative races due to down ballot implications, including the potential of another legislative Session with slim majorities in one or both bodies or even shifting majorities. Either situation will likely have an impact for many organizations and interests as they try to advance their respective advocacy goals.

Gawthrop Greenwood, PC - Attorneys at Law
|
With Gawthrop Greenwood–Attorneys at Law celebrating its 120th anniversary, it’s the perfect time to take a look at where the firm is today.
“We’re finding that our longevity is a key factor for job candidates as we continue to grow in our West Chester, Greater Wilmington and new Berwyn offices,” said Stacey L. Fuller, partner and chair of the management committee at Gawthrop Greenwood. “Attorneys are seeking a stable and steadfast employer, paired with our ability to innovate workflows to ensure attorneys and staff are serving clients’ needs while achieving a sustainable work-life balance.”
This has a direct impact on the quality of service provided to Gawthrop Greenwood’s clients, according to Fuller.
“How many times have you heard someone say that their attorney doesn’t promptly return calls or appears distracted and unavailable? This is a pervasive problem in the legal industry, but not at Gawthrop Greenwood. Our attorneys are fully supported throughout their careers, so their focus is on you, the client, at all times,” said Fuller.
