Last Call for Pickleball

The Women Influencing Business Committee is hosting a Pickleball Clinic & Open Play next week!

Last year, nearly 50 women from across Chester County attended this event to learn how to play pickleball, compete in some open play, and try this new format for networking. This year, we are offering the same opportunity to both women and men!

WIB Committee Chair, Jolie Karp of Stephano Slack, said, "As a new player I thought the event was an awesome way to learn how to play in a structured, non-intimidating environment! Also, watching the experienced players on the court was fun as it helped solidify what was learned in the clinic! Whether you are experienced or new or somewhere in the middle, don’t miss this fun event to mingle and network with others!"

Join us on Wednesday, April 17th from 5:30 to 7:30pm at the YMCA Pickleball Center at Downingtown. Tickets for CCCBI Members are $50 and $60 for Non-Members. All registrants will be entered for the chance to win a Three Month Pickleball Membership!

Don't miss out on this evening full of pickleball, networking and fun!

Special thanks to our Food Sponsor, Brumbaugh Wealth Management and Court Sponsor, Krapf Group!

Legislative Update

CCCBI Writes Letters of Support

The Chester County Chamber of Business & Industry recently wrote letters of support in the interest of our Member Businesses and Community Partners.

In late March, CCCBI President & CEO, Laura Manion, wrote to Senators John Fetterman and Bob Casey in support of the repealment of Section 232 tariffs on steel and aluminum. CCCBI has previously written to the Senators to share concerns from both the Chamber and its Member businesses regarding the tariffs and how they continue to stifle economic growth and risk manufacturing jobs. Manufacturing is central to Pennsylvania’s economy, sustaining thousands of both direct and indirect jobs, in addition to being a major driver of our state’s GDP. Data from the U.S. International Trade Commission calculates that the Section 232 tariffs caused domestic aluminum prices to rise by 1.6%, leading to both higher prices and decreased production in downstream industries for an estimated economic loss of over $3 billion. Estimates calculated by The Tax Foundation have projected that repealing the Section 232 tariffs would grow our national GDP in addition to creating over 4,000 new jobs. Meanwhile, economists from Harvard and UC Davis, respectively, used Federal Reserve data to find that the Section 232 tariffs were likely responsible for cutting over 75,000 working class, manufacturing jobs. Manion concluded the letter with CCCBI's call for our legislators to either draft, or support legislation which would repeal these tariffs.

On behalf of CCCBI, Manion also wrote a letter to the Pennsylvania Department of Education's Bureau Director of Special Education in support of the Chester County Intermediate Unit's (CCIU) proposed campus expansion project. This initiative is both pivotal for the educational landscape and will act as a cornerstone for the economic and communal advancement of our region by providing a state-of-the-art learning facility as well as nearly 200 employment opportunities throughout its construction and operation. The project will act as a strategic investment in the future of Chester County's economy promising to enhance our community’s educational infrastructure, stimulate economic growth, and strengthen the bonds within our community. We urge the Pennsylvania Department of Education to support this transformative project, which will undoubtedly have a lasting positive impact on our region.

CCCBI is dedicated to serving as the primary voice for businesses on local, state, and federal levels on all matters that impact their operations and growth. Our position allows us to advocate for policies that are both pro-business and pro-economic growth, while advocating against any and all policies that will increase the cost of doing business here in Chester County. For more information about our legislative priorities and initiatives, please view our Legislative Agenda or contact Alex Rahn, CCCBI's on-staff lobbyist from Wanner Associates.
