Governor Shapiro Releases Economic Development Strategy
|
The Chester County Chamber of Commerce (CCCBI) applauds Governor Josh Shapiro on his focus on the economy and the release of a statewide economic development strategy which he announced Tuesday. The Commonwealth has lacked this type of plan for approximately 20 years and it is a much needed step to ensure Pennsylvania remains competitive for employer growth, retention and recruitment.
Laura Manion, President of CCCBI, stated, “Pennsylvania's economy remains sluggish in its post-pandemic recovery, with fewer jobs and fewer individuals in the labor force. Thanks to Governor Shapiro's commitment to using economic and workforce development to address this situation, we are confident that his focus on improving the Permitting and Regulatory Processes will help businesses and all employers remain viable.”
The Chamber staff is reviewing the plan further and will discuss in detail during our next Government Affairs Committee meeting on Friday February 9th. Please contact the Chamber Office or Alex Rahn, our Government Affairs Consultant if you would like to attend. In the meantime, we look forward to working with the Shapiro Administration to implement the first statewide economic development strategy in two decades on how to best serve the needs of our employer members and the Chester County Business Community.

At Penn Oaks Golf Club, the mission is simple. "Simply Perfect. Everyone and Everything Matters!"
In 2004, brothers John and Steve DiMarco, along with likeminded local businessmen, purchased Penn Oaks and vowed to make it better than ever. Penn Oaks is located in Thornbury Township, West Chester, Pennsylvania. The golf course property overlaps both Chester and Delaware Counties. The history of the property goes way back to 1681 when King Charles II granted the parcel of ground to William Penn.
In 2015 Penn Oaks faced a devastating loss when a contaminated fungicide killed all the greens throughout the golf course. In a matter of 74 days, with the help of the entire staff, they were able to rebuild the golf course from dirt to grass, making it even better than before. In addition to golf, Penn Oaks Golf Club leads in hospitality by having a longstanding membership and hosting numerous weddings and events all while continuing to enhance and beautify its facilities frequently.
Just last year, Penn Oaks donated and raised $262,000 in charitable donations. John and Steve DiMarco continue to make it their mission to give back to community that gives so much to them at Penn Oaks Golf Club.
“Several staff members, myself included, have been employed at Penn Oaks for 10+ years and I think that tells you everything you need to know about the business. They treat their staff and everyone who walks through the door like family. The feeling is mutual and I feel lucky to be employed here!”
-Shannon Smith
CCCBI hosts events at Penn Oaks throughout the year, and we are thrilled to give back to this small business at the Small Business Awards Breakfast.
