Youth Leadership Program Celebrates Graduation Dinner
|
On Tuesday, the Chester County Chamber Foundation's Youth Leadership Program celebrated their 2023-2024 Graduation Dinner.
Students and their families gathered at Penn Oaks Golf Club to look back on their year and connect with several presenters from the businesses they visited, Foundation Board Members and CCCBI Board Members.
Two students, Peter and Zach, volunteered to speak to the group, recounting their favorite program days and the friendships they formed with their peers. This year, sixty students from twelve different schools participated in the program, visiting seven different businesses and even the Capitol building in Harrisburg with the help of CCCBI Lobbyist, Alex Rahn.
In addition to the students, Thomas Chiomento of Pennsylvania American Water, Katie LaDow of Lamb McErlane PC, and Phil Martelli offered their remarks on the history, current success, and future of the program for Chester County.
Thank you to all who joined us, all who hosted or volunteered at a program day, and most importantly, thank you to the students who participated in this wonderful Youth Leadership Program!

One Week Left Until the 2024 WIB Awards Dinner
|
CCCBI's Women Influencing Business Awards Dinner is just one week away!
Join us next Thursday, May 16th from 5:00pm to 7:00pm at the Chester Valley Golf Club to network with women and men from across the region as we celebrate this year's award winners and hear from our fantastic Keynote Speaker, Ann King Lagos, Founder and Designer of REALM Fine + Fashion Jewelry
As a young girl, Ann loved making things with her hands yet also loved joining her mother in making things look pretty. As a Girl Scout she treasured being part of a group that served a higher purpose. It seems destined that she would become the founder and designer of REALM Fine + Fashion Jewelry, a company with the mission of uplifting and honoring women in every facet of its business.
With REALM, Ann realized her dream of a brand that’s about more than jewelry. It’s about the women who wear the jewelry. Women are the heart of REALM. Women’s curves inspire the sculptural styles and women’s passions inspire each collection’s unique symbolism. Real women(REALM’s customers, aka “Empresses”) star in campaigns. Even the brand’s social media hashtags center around women—not jewelry.
"REALM is defined as a community or kingdom,” says Ann. “A fitting tribute honoring all women who come together and champion each other to be our best selves and reign thoughtfully in our realms.”
We hope you'll join us at this signature event to connect, celebrate and congratulate Rosemary and Samantha!🎉

Pennsylvania's Unemployment Compensation System
|
Last Wednesday, PA Senate lawmakers voted to pass legislation to improve the integrity of Pennsylvania’s unemployment compensation (UC) system, in the process defeating an amendment that would have had dramatic negative consequences for employers.
Lawmakers voted 31-19 to pass Senate Bill 1109, which would help address a trend in which job candidates admit they are only applying to comply with the state’s work search requirement in order to maintain their UC eligibility. Furthermore, these individuals often fail to show up for job interviews or work, a practice known as “ghosting.”
Senate Bill 1109 would codify that an individual is not eligible for benefits if they discourage their own employment. The bill will not affect the vast majority of UC claimants who are utilizing the program appropriately and actively seeking employment.
Additionally, Senators defeated an anti-business amendment that, if passed, would have extended UC eligibility to individuals who voluntarily go on strike.
This proposed amendment would have undermined the purpose of the UC system, made Pennsylvania a less attractive place to do business, and is so egregious that even California’s Democratic Governor Gavin Newsom recently vetoed a similar proposal, citing the massive financial impact it would have on their UC system.
Thank you to the PA Chamber of Business & Industry for providing this informative Legislative Update!
