Legislative Update

Election Information

The General Election is less than a week away, and please do not forget to vote in this critical election. Information on where to vote in Chester County can be accessed here and the Chamber’s endorsements can be viewed by clicking this link.

Also, on Wednesday November 13th, the Chamber is hosting Post Election Summit to dive deeper into the results and understand how this election will have an impact on policies of importance to the business community and the Chamber’s advocacy goals in Harrisburg as well as Washington, DC.

Indeed, as the Presidential election heads into the home stretch, Pennsylvania has emerged as THE main battleground state on deciding who sits in the White House. Due to this, the Commonwealth has seen more political advertisement spending in 2024 than any other state in history as the parties clash not only over President, but also the US Senate seat and several crucial US House races. This amount of national attention (and spending) within the Commonwealth could impact “down ballot” local legislative races and even which party is in the majorities within the PA General Assembly.

This could lead to another legislative PA Legislative Session with slim majorities in one or both bodies or even shifting of who is in power with half of the seats in the PA Senate and the full House of Representatives up for election on November 5th.  Opinions vary on what districts may flip, but indications are that at least the following campaigns are competitive, including at least one in our area:

However, not every race is competitive - 52 Democrats and 49 Republicans are not facing any challenger in the general election for their seat in PA General Assembly. Additionally in this cycle, there have been over a dozen retirements from the legislature, and another 10 members relinquished their seats to seek higher office.
